Archives: Bulova Launches the Chronograph C Series

I think it was my grandfather who first instilled in me the need to have a collection of proper watches. A proper gentleman had a watch for every occasion. His collection included many a Patek Philippe, Omega and Rolex. But one his favourite everyday watches was a classic Bulova – clean and simple. The perfect everyday watch he would tell me. In fact, the newest Bulova Chronograph C reminds me of one of his watches (that went to one of my cousins not me btw). I may need to add this one to my collection in his honour.

The Archive Series revives some of Bulova’s iconic designs updated for today’s sensibilities. This year’s Chronograph C, with its bold red/white/blue dial and thick coin-edge case details takes design inspiration from the 1970s but updates it with high-performance quartz chronograph movement. Quite frankly it just might be the best minimalist yet sexy modernist retro watch I have seen in years. The sleek chain metal understated band is simply sublime. And I love the navy face with its hits of red. A special-edition boxed presentation includes two straps: stainless mesh and navy leather. This watch is one you should keep in collection and pass down to your children. Trust me. $895.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
