because Canadian Fashion Matters

I am all for the emergence of awards that celebrate (and help fund) Canadian Designers, from TFI New Labels to Mercedes Benz Start Up and now The Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA). These awards are important not only to encourage the fashion industry in Canada but to also offer guidance, mentoring and funding for some of these labels.

For the Second year in a row, CAFA will award The Emerging Talent Award for Fashion Design and The Emerging Talent Award for Accessory Design. Both involve monetary prizes to help fund these designers/brands. And both awards are also open to nominations from the public but you must nominate before September 15th. Go to their site and nominate your favourite designer now (and there is no shame in nominating yourself). Do it for Coco.

Just don’t nominate me for anything please.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
