Haberdashery has had a resurgence over the past few years and with it comes a whole new batch of companies going after the small details again – cufflinks, suspenders, and of course pocket squares. But few have gone after bringing the handkerchief back.
Philip Sparks has always offered classic menswear tailoring with a modern edge, so it is no surprise that Sparks has released a line of hankies this season. The collection of cotton handkerchiefs feature a series of Indian block prints; available in a rainbow of bold colours and intricate patterns.
So what’s the difference between a hankie and a pocket square? It is in the uses of the handkerchief and the pocket square that the differences lie. Handkerchiefs are meant to be used for your hygienic purposes only, while pocket squares should never be used for this purpose and are strictly for show. Pocket squares remain in your breast pocket of your blazer, a handkerchief remains in your pants pocket.
A true gentlemen will have both a pocket square and a handkerchief. So where’s yours?
