The other day I heard someone say that they had never owned a denim jacket/ jean jacket. I actually had to hide my shock. Further, they felt there was a resurgence to them lately and was now contemplating one. Shock. Again.

Here’s the deal. You need to own one or two or three to be honest. Always. This is not a trend. This is a menswear staple. But why more than one? You need a classic dark denim and you need a worn-in classic denim. Can you layer it under a wool topcoat? Yes. Can you wear it with a shirt and tie? Yes. My only rule, make sure it fits well – you want a slim fit.  Try it on, it’s about how it fits you not the brand. My picks:

ImageGivenchy, Slim-Fit Madonna-Print Jacket. While this jacket would not normally be a classic investment piece due to the print, I would argue, it’s Madonna – religious iconography is classic.

J.Crew, Denim Jacket in Medium Worn Wash

Also try APC, Acne, Levis or even Gap 1968 (Gap has been doing Jean Jackets well for a long time).

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
