No More Wicker, Blanche: Cane is the New Wicker

In the world of interior design, a lot of trends come and go. But I for one am not one to follow many of them. I think good design is good design, regardless of the era. If you love a piece and appreciate the design and craftsmanship behind it, it will always have a place in your home. Enter Cane or Caning. The age old tradition of weaving reeds into a strong durable material is back and bigger than ever. Sure, machines have replaced the handwoven fabrication method. But in doing so, it has made cane more available to the masses. So why not hit a great, yet accessible, store like CB2 to pick up some great caned pieces.

Tayabas Side Chair, $799 CDN
Boho Natural Daybed, $1899 CDN
Segment Headboard, $799

Suri Desk, $1599 CDN

What I love about cane furniture is that they immediately add a warmth to any interior. And a bit of a flair of the tropics. It feels old yet completely modern. Don’t you think your home could benefit from a little cane? Now if you want to try incorporating some caned furniture pieces without a lot of expense, you can try your hand at a little DIY Caned Screen that I made on Cityline. Chic and Cheap.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
