Founded in 2015 by designers Christian Lo and David Ryan, Anony Studio has quickly made a statement on the Canadian lighting design scene. Based in Toronto, the studio does not focus solely on lighting but this is where they shine. Their pure forms and neutral material palette of the lights have garnered many followers and many notable international awards. In a few shorts years, Anony Studio has built an impressive collection of lighting options. There are almost too many “too-good” lighting options, so much so that I cannot even choose, thankfully the project often dictates which piece would work best. Could you pick just one?
DAWN
Dawn is pure beauty; it is sexy and sublime. The fixture features plexiglass panels draped over an aluminum tube to create dynamic shapes and shades. As the name suggests, it is a graphic take on the ethereal moment when the sun is rising but still below the horizon, softly illuminating the sky. Comes in two metal finishes – white or black and multiple smoke options of plexiglass. I am tickled pink by the pink sun…aren’t you?
OHM
Their take on a simple globe pendant, ohm, feels more playful than others on the market. The polished brass pendants features orbital shades referencing eyelids; it’s almost like they want to give you a wink from across the room. Each opal glass orb casts a warm ambient glow, suspended in space by a slim suspension cable. The Ohm can be displayed as a singular pendant or as a cluster. Available in multiple finishes: Polished Brass | Copper | Chrome | Matte White Sandtex | Matte Black Sandtex.
HORIZON
Horizon is a minimal disk which appears to float off the wall. A simple push changes the direction of light. The sophisticated construction creates an unbroken ring of light, revealing no fasteners. Horizon can be produced in any colour and arranged in any pattern to create sculptural compositions. Horizon also has an optional wall adapter with an on/off switch, eliminating the need for a junction box as it is powered with a cord and plug.
HIGHWIRE PENDANT
Highwire is a gravitational balancing act, created by tension between two points and a weighted centre. Highwire’s luminaries are composed of anodized, machined aluminum and laser-cut diffusers. These elegant, individually-weighted disks rest on taught electrical cables. By loading the cables with the luminaries, the cables lightly trace shapes in three-dimensional space, allowing the fixture to frame to any setting. These shapes are further accentuated by the light emanating from both sides of each disk, which illuminates the surrounding area and also the fixture itself. Up to five luminaries can be added to a single power drop. This is where lighting falls into art.
