Bouligny Tavern
Bouligny Tavern was opened by Chef John Harris right next door to his A-list restaurant Lilette, but this time around his sous chef Michael Isolani is in charge of the menu. The tavern has a separate kitchen from Lilette, but its cuisine choices seem very much influenced by next door. We sat down for some great craft cocktails – an Eddie Taylor (Scotch, lime, Tawny Port, ginger beer and bitters) and a Jaws of Life (Reposado Tequila, Cocchi Americano, Galliano and Lemon). Both were delicious. And if you like a good Aperol Spritz, try one here. They make a delicious version.
After a few drinks we turned to food – naturally. We started with the burrata with pesto, lemon zest and fleur de sel – it was on point. The bone marrow with garlic was deliciously sinful. Be sure to ask what the raw fish of the day is for the day – I am never one to turn down a tartate. Once you have enough cocktails, it is time to delve into the fried goods. Try the tempura green beans with spicy sesame aioli or the classic fritto misto. If you aren’t too hungry, you need to at least try the crispy chickpeas with chili peanuts and curried popcorn. The night ended with amazing gouda beignets – that’s right, gouda. Yum.
Definitely the best bar food you will ever have. And great cocktails.
