Okay Okay, it’s three turntables and no microphone.
Apparently the vinyl LP is making a renaissance. But anyone who never gave up on vinyl knows the truth – the LP never died and vinyl has always been better. In its essence, music is analogue – digital formats must chop music into bits to transmit them but once chopped they can never be reassembled back to their original sound. With this in mind, maybe it’s time to re-invest in your music men. It will impress the ladies and the lady men alike.
I could easily recommend the SME 30/12 but at $30,000 it’s a bit steep even for my blood. So here are my picks that deliver on great sound and great design and won’t break the bank (in order of most expensive to most affordable).
Pro-ject Signature 12 is a non-compromise high end turntable – read expensive. This baby is like a high end sports car but will only set you back about 10k.
Pro-ject Debut Carbon Esprit. This one is easily my pick, mid range but with amazing sound. The first Debut turntable, introduced in the late 1990s, was a revolution for the hi-fi industry. For the first time after the arrival of Compact Disc, an analogue product re-emerged in the “mass market” – something all music lovers could afford. The new Debut lives up to the original and improves upon it. A great choice, and besides how could you pass up this one on design alone. $650
Pro-ject Elemental Phono USB. This model is almost idiot proof. This shit is plug and play with high quality sound. $350
