Florals (and death) for Spring

Spring is often about birth and renewal – flowers bloom. And die.

Leave to Vivienne Westwood to make a floral tote every man would/should want to carry. The Dame puts her own signature punk twist on a floral pattern for SS2014 with the addition of hand painted skulls. And of course, each piece is unique and part of the Vivienne Westwood Ethical Fashion Initiative.

Produced in canvas, this shopper is hand painted with flowers and skulls, beautifully lined with recycled men’s shirts and features both long and shorter straps for carrying. $255

The Vivienne Westwood Ethical Fashion Initiative Bags are “Handmade with love” in Nairobi, and are produced in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint body of the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO), supporting the work of thousands of women micro-producers from marginalized African communities. The ITC empowers informal manufacturers and craftspeople to enter the international value chain, providing an income for some of the poorest people in the world. This promotes the growth of sustainable business in place of aid dependency and creates stability among these impoverished communities. This is not charity, this is work.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
