Black and White Lies

I have always been a big fan of subtle (and not so subtle) humor in home design. Nothing bores me more than a beautiful apartment or home devoid of humor. You know the place, everything looks straight out of a magazine – not one item of kitsch, nothing surprising and nothing even remotely funny. It almost looks like you are on set, as if no one lives there. Guess what? No one does.

If you are now looking at your own pad and realizing this may be you, don’t worry I have a solution. If you think this doesn’t apply to you, perhaps you should edit out some of the ‘extra personality’ in your home.

I know these Jonathan Adler canisters are nothing new (well one of them is) but they will add a sense of newness and freshness into your home – and humour. I tend to favour them all in black and white; they are perfect lined up in my bathroom. Ensure you pick a variety of shapes and heights to add interest. And the best thing is – try putting some candy in the Quaaludes jar for your snoopy bathroom guests. You never know where the conversation will turn when they emerge.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
