I can still remember when I bought my first pair of Hunter boots, they were from Caban and it was 2004. Ten years later and I am still rocking them, although I can tell you that the fit has changed (the ankles are fatter in the boots) and the rubber ‘blooms’ (white haze on the rubber) now. But I still love them and it’s nice to see that Nick Wooster has Hunter love too (spotted during NYFW). You can get yours locally in Toronto through Get Outside Shoes.
Truths about Hunters:
- They will keep you dry but not that warm. In cities with winter, slush is the biggest culprit for making your feet cold. Wet=Cold.
- You will sweat in them indoors, they are rubber. Get used to it.
- They are not women’s boots – they were originally made for the British Army in 1875. How much more manly can you get?
- Men should stick to black, hunter green or navy.
- Mink Oil will keep them shiny and get rid of the white haze when the rubber ‘blooms’.
- You’ll love being able to walk straight through puddles while others have to walk around.
- You will get funny looks for being an adult in rubbers, deal with it. Wear them with confidence.
