One of the simplest tricks to look fashionable in the colder Winter months is layering – especially layering your outerwear. Fashion forward men have been doing this trick for years – Puffer vests under suit jackets; denim jackets under trench coats; slim fit down coats under topcoats, etc. The added layers add interest; the age old trick has always been wearing the shorter coat under the longer.
But why not switch it up. Wear the shorter layer over the longer one. This is tricky but pays off when done correctly. Try a dark denim coat over your black or navy top coat – the juxtaposition of lengths and the casual vs the dressy is perfection (and the black and navy colour combo always wins in my books). Or if you aren’t adventurous enough, try a puffer vest over your suit jacket. Baby steps, eventually you will end up pairing a varsity jacket over your car coat. Try it – what do you have to lose?
