One of my guiding principles of design is simplicity – I am all about function and form being married together in simplicity. I am not one of those more is more guys (although I do indulge in that notion once or twice). That being said, it should come as no surprise that I am a fan of Whipping Post. “At Whipping Post we’re inspired by simplicity. Using the very best materials and functional design, our products reflect the way things used to be made”. So what does that all mean? Whipping Post makes great leather bags.
Military Duffle Bag, $319. The duffle is handmade from buttery brown vegetable-tanned full grain leather (the leather you know is going to just get better and better with age) and contains no zippers; simply a fold-and-clip closure—just like those found on the classic bags used by GIs for decades (love this feature). As a kid, Barr recalls using his father’s bag for everything, from carrying tools to sporting goods. “I wanted to make a similar bag that was constructed of better materials and sized a little bit more appropriately for a few days away rather than a combat deployment,” he explains. This Military Duffel is just the right size for a carry-on bag or the sickest gym bag boys.
Vintage Tote Bag, $175. You know I had to include a tote; in this day and age of shopping with reusable bags we all need a good tote. This vintage inspired tote is also made with 100% vegetable tanned leather and included an interior pocket (too many totes don’t have this feature), copper rivets, and a solid bottom.
