1. Kate Moss turns 40 and she kicks 40s ass on the cover of Playboy magazine. Many people slammed this idea but I loved it from the beginning. They claimed that it was a sell out for Kate to bare all, they obviously have never followed her career – she’s been naked most of it. And in my books Kate can do no wrong and Mert+Marcus are brilliant photographers. See them all here.
2. Designer Musical Chairs:
- Alexander Wang moves to Balenciaga
- Nicholas Ghesquiere takes over at Louis Vuitton
- Marc Jacobs leaves Louis Vuitton to focus on his own brand (and upcoming IPO)
- Marco Zanini leaves Rochas for Schiaparelli
- Alessandro Dell’Acqua takes over at Rochas
- J.W. Anderson takes over at Loewe
- Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz leave Bally for Mulberry
Can you keep up?
3. Rick Owens stomps the yard and shakes up fashion once again with his Spring/Summer 2014 show in Paris.
4. The return of the Supermodels.
Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington both grace the covers of Bazaar.
Christy Turlington steps it up in 2013 with campaigns for everyone from Prada to H&M. And stuns everyone with her new Calvin Klein Underwear campaigns. The 44 year old replaces 29 year old Lara Stone for Calvin Klein Underwear. Is this the new 40?
And how could any of us forget the Interview magazine Supermodel Issue featuring Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington (with cameos from newer ‘Supermodels’ Amber Valetta and Daria Werbowy).
5. Two of last year’s designer appointments met with many unfavourable critiques – many people were not happy with Raf Simons moving over to Dior and Hedi Slimane taking over at YSL. I think both moves were genius. And both designers continue to revolutionize both houses. No matter the critiques, I love Hedi at Saint Laurent and so do the consumers; Saint Laurent is selling out even with the ridiculous prices. I am sure you disagree but you can’t disagree that every brand and fashionista ripped off that hat.
And I love the return to the New Look that Raf brought (back) to Dior.
5+. Jeanne Beker revolutionized how we saw and learned about the fashion world with Fashion Television, her efforts are awarded with the Order of Canada.
