Caliber’s Newark Cuff

I can’t tell you how I first discovered Caliber. Perhaps, it was on another website. Or perhaps, I saw it on a wrist somewhere and stopped the person to find out about the brand. But I can tell you that the Caliber Cuff with (or without) diamond is a New Icon in my books. It is the perfectly rugged yet fashion forward men’s cuff that can be worn by anyone and with anything. Further, it is also a cuff with a conscience.

The Caliber Collection

The brand began back in January 2012. The first ever collection was based on as a collaboration with the Mayor of Newark, NJ, Cory Booker, as a way to turn illegal and unwanted guns from our cities streets into jewelry. The vision was simple yet profound – t0 transform of instruments of destruction into jewelry. The brand collects illegal and unwanted weapons and shell casings swept from crime scenes through a buy back program. Moreover, the Caliber Collection creates a virtuous cycle by funding a gun buyback and amnesty programs from the proceeds of its sales. To date, they have taken over 2,500 illegal guns off the streets. Further, they have raised over $165,000 for police departments in Newark, Hartford, the San Francisco Bay Area, Detroit and Miami.

The Newark Cuff with Diamond ($275).

Each cuff carries a serial number that corresponds with one of the guns that were taken off the streets of Newark by the Police Department. Embedded next to the serial number is a single diamond. I like the juxtaposition of the rugged brass cuff with the single diamond.

20% of the proceeds from each purchase is donated to the Caliber Foundation to support victims and communities devastated by illegal gun violence.

The diamonds used in all pieces of the Caliber Collection are conflict free diamonds.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
