dippity-do is back: and better than ever

The past few seasons have seen the return of everything 90s. And for those of us who grew up in that era, there is something to be said about nostalgia and its driving force of those iconic brands. dippity-do is one such brand; it was a staple of the 90s and my childhood. I still remember those iconic bottles of colour gel sitting on my bathroom shelf as a teenager. It was the perfect hair product for the hairstyles of the 90s. Luckily my hair has changed since but so has dippity-do’s product range. Their classic gels are still available but they have rounded out their line with a new series of texturizers. There are 3 great products in the new men’s texturizers series that will help create and style any hairstyle (from fashion forward to classic menswear).

As someone who is always been about great hair and great style, I am always on the lookout for great new products – no matter the price point. I have tried out just about everything on the market in terms of men’s styling products. So when I heard dippity-do was launching some new products, I jumped on the chance to try them out.

PASTE

Texture Paste creates texture and definition with medium shine. This product offers flexible hold with a natural feel. This is my favourite of the assortment when I want more natural hair styles with flexible hold. This means you can always style and restyle easily on the go. Added bonus: this one contains coffee and sea kelp to fortify and strengthen your hair cuticles.

CREAM

Styling Cream keeps your hair in top form as it conditions, repels moisture, and provides high hold. This product has a medium shine that’s durable yet re-workable with a natural feel. This product worked great on days when I just wanted to work through the cream on wet hair and let it dry naturally. It made it manageable all day but looked groomed yet not overly styled. On dry hair it provides high hold and high style.

POMADE

The great thing about this 3-in-1 Pomade gives shape to any style. So this product works well whether your hair is straight, sleek, naturally-curly or wavy. I found this product worked really well with shorter hair and sleek backed styles. It gave great shine.

After trying out all three products in the assortment, I have to admit that they are all great hair products. Moreover, they are all at a great price point – $6.99 for 6.3oz. These are great everyday styling products. But what I liked about them most about all three of them is that they have grooming ingredients you would expect to find in higher price point products. Ingredients like Argan Oil, Shea Butter,a and Olive Oil to keep your hair in great condition. Further, they add shine and fortify your hair. The addition of tea tree oil keeps your scalp healthy and moisturized.

Added bonus: the packaging. The sleek modern packaging has a great retro barbershop vibe – that look great sitting out on your bathroom counter.

The new range of dippity-do is available nationwide through Jean Coutu, Loblaws, London Drugs and Walmart.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
