Canadian Design Icon: Merchant Son’s Sweatshirt Blanket

Canadians have become known over the past century for making great blankets. I am not sure there is a reason that can explain this phenomenon. Perhaps it’s all the cold weather or perhaps it’s our love to snuggle or our access to great wools…Either way, we make great blankets loved the world over.

There are several Canadian made blankets that have become iconic over the years – I am sure we are all familiar with the classic Hudson’s Bay Five Point Blanket. And it’s great and wooly and heavy…and perfect for winter. But I propose a new Canadian Classic everyone should own – the Sweatshirt Blanket from Merchant Sons.

Merchant Sons

Merchant Sons is a newly launched home textiles design company that makes great sheets but one of their standout items is the sweatshirt blanket. It feels like wrapping yourself up in a your favourite cozy sweatshirt. The blanket is made in Canada (Scarborough ON to be exact) with all Canadian materials. Available in the classic sweatshirt grey, charcoal and sand. And at only $100, its a design deal.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
