I was at an event recently, for another suiting company, when I bumped into a not-to-be-outed-by-me-celebrity that I knew. He was being fawned over for his amazing suit. Here is the secret, it was not the high end suit from the high end suiting event we were attending. In fact, it was a lower priced suit, that had been perfectly tailored. Lesson from this : it’s not the suit that counts, it’s the custom tailoring. Enter Indochino.

Indochino has built their business over the past few years online. They offer to create for you a custom fit suit based on the seventeen measurements you send them. And here’s the best part, it’s dead simple. They send you swatches and measuring tapes and a how-to video. A few weeks later, your suit arrives right to your door. It couldn’t be any easier for men who don’t like to shop. And if you are one of those picky bastards, they even offer after delivery alterations.

Now Indochino has taken this concept on the road with a series of pop-up shops. I recently stopped by the latest Indochino Traveling Tailor Shop in Toronto and was impressed to finally experience the brand first hand, which means you will be floored by the custom experience. They have staff on hand to walk you through the entire process and do all the measuring for you.

Now I am not going to lie to you and tell you that it will be the exact same experience as ordering a custom made $4000 suit with the exact results. Will it fit as well? Probably not but it will be pretty fuckin close, your co-worker won’t even be able to tell the difference (after all they use the same wools as Ralph Lauren does for his Purple label). And you just saved yourself $3500. If you would rather blow all $4000, you can send me the change.

If you haven’t had a custom made suit yet we can’t be friends. I repeat, if you haven’t had a custom made suit, this is the perfect time to do it. No seriously, get on it already. You can thank me later.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
