United Stock Dry Goods

I must admit that I have known all about United Stock Dry Goods (Sydney’s in house brand) for several seasons now and have been impressed by their coats but have never tried on them denim. Well this week I did the unthinkable – I went for it. Unthinkable for me because I am one of those people who sticks to a very few select brands of denim and never deviate – it took years to find the right fit (muscular thighs from years of ski racing doesn’t make finding a skinny jean easy). APC and Uniqlo are my usual go-to brands for high and low denim but I think I will be adding United Stock Dry Goods into the rotation.

I tried on and purchased up both a pair of the slight fit and the narrow fit. And don’t worry, the slight (the skinnier of the two) fit isn’t that skinny – its the perfect kind of skinny (these are not jeggings from H&M). I would say that a pair a Levis 511 is smack in the middle of the narrow fit and the slight fit from United Stock Dry Goods if that helps you judge the degree of skinny. They are made of high quality Japanese denim; a selvedge denim that almost stands up on its on. And if you live in Toronto you can buy then at Sydney’s,  2 pairs for $100 (regular price is $170 each). Get them before they are gone. Otherwise you can buy them online here.

Author’s note: a friend who frequently reads my blog challenged me to post about something that costs less than a $100. I am sure he thought this would be difficult but my style has always been about mixing overpriced designer with great deals. I would much rather buy a good quality item at a discount than shop at a fast fashion discount retailer. Here are two pairs of jeans for $100.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
