ImageThe new Thom Browne store, in Tokyo,  is unlike any other designer retail store you have encountered. Sure just like CDG stores it has inconspicuous entrance but once inside you feel you have entered a new world – a world somewhere between a WWII underground bunker and an office building. It is perfect for the Thom aesthetic.ImageThere is something about the extreme minimalism inside that makes me think of luxury. Its austerity instills relaxation. There is nothing that is not necessary – not even flowers.  It even re kindles my love of horizontal blinds. I even appreciate that he used those ‘horrible’ overhead fluorescent lights.ImageImageThis is a far cry from the opulence that is a Tom Ford store and that’s the way I like it .

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
