Ground Control To Major Tom: These Are Major

Many style icons come and go over the years but David Bowie is forever. And in celebration of the style and swagger of Bowie, VANS has released a capsule collection inspired by his rock-glam personas.

VANS commemorates the life and legacy of David Bowie with a collection of unisex footwear and apparel for adults and toddlers. Drawing inspiration from some of Bowie’s most influential works and many colorful personas, this collaboration celebrates a joint force between Vans and “the man who fell to earth”—two entities who for decades have championed the different and the strange. And embracing your own.

The shoes in this collection are perfection. From the Black Star simple slip-ons to over the top polka dots. These are VANS that should be in everyone’s collection.

Vans’ Old Skool is dedicated to David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album and includes pearlescent pebbled leather uppers accented by the iconic red and blue lightning bolt and finished with Vans’ Sidestripe. The two renowned motifs merge on the Sk8-Hi model which has checkerboard printed sidewall and includes the Bowie lightning bolt logo lock-up overlaid across the ubiquitous print and Sidestripe.
The perfect mash up: Vans Classic Era and Bowie’s first hit single “Space Oddity” from 1969. Vans’ first skate shoe showcases varying hues of blue and green and cylindrical shapes that matches back to the album art cover. The Era is finished with a black sole that is accented with the album name on the medial and tonal design details on the lateral sides.

The Vans and David Bowie collection is available now in select Vans retail stores and online.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
