Gifted | Shop Local: Montreal Guide

This time of year I am always on the go; December means lots of work travel between some of my favourite cities. I always try to make it a point to squeeze in some ‘me’ time in each city – a chance to hit up the local neighbourhoods to see what’s new and happening. I love to discover new shops and return to some of my favourites. These are always the first place I look for Holiday gifts. It’s almost like the gifts feel more rewarding when I find them in some hidden gem of a mom-and-pop shop. Further, it’s a great way of getting out there and getting to know people and entrepreneurs in your local community. I really like the idea of giving back to my local business owners through buying from their stores.

With my love of the local in mind, Interac challenged me to support small businesses for the holidays. As you know,  I am always happy to support local shops. But now I am going to challenge you to as well. Did you also know that paying with Interac Debit and Interac Flash saves the small businesses money? It has lower transaction costs for small businesses compared to other payments. It’s a Win-Win.

Up next: Montreal…

Bar A Beurre.  348 Notre Dame Est Old Port.

Le Paradis du Fromage. Atwater Market. I always have to stop bythis cheese shop in Atwater market – the best selection of imported and local cheese. And I can never resist their olive bar.

Aux 33 Tours  1373 Mont-Royal Ave E   The best selection of vinyl in Montreal. I always have to stop in to add to my collection of old classics and new rare releases. If you are into vinyl, you must stop in here.

Rooney 395 Notre-Dame St W – A curated and cool selection of On-Trend Menswear and Womenswear brands. Lots of brands you won’t find anywhere else in Montreal.

LNF SHOP  5319 Park Ave – My go to for vintage finds. Love their streetwear tilt. You can find everything from old school classic Polo brand to Supreme and Y3.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
