It’s Spring: Switch your Sheets to Linen

I have to admit that I only started using linen bedding when we bought our home in New Orleans. It just felt right to have linen bedding in a southern climate. Linen has been used for centuries in hot weather climates due to the light and airy nature of the fabric. Linen bedding lets you skin breath more while sleeping which means you sweat less… Linen sheets are a game changer. In fact, I loved the softness and feel of linen on my bed so much that I have taken a set north to our place in Toronto. But the tricky part with linen sheets and bedding is finding one that isn’t overly priced. Or too bargain basement (aka sandpaper-y). There is a lot of them on the market now but I opt for Loomstead.

Made from Belgian flax, their washed linen provides that fresh-sheet-feeling every time you get under the covers. Breathable, with an airy softness, they keep you cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and always completely cozy. Now I know most people are used to sleeping on linen and think it will feel like linen clothing – but the process for linen bedding involves a washing treatment that leaves the linen soft and luxurious. Moreover the beautiful linen texture gets softer and suppler with each and every wash. Once you try them, you will never go back to simple old cotton sheeting. Trust me.

The linen sheets from Loomstead are perfectly soft and priced right at $210 for a queen set (pillowcases, fitted sheet, flat sheet). I also love that the brand offers the option to buy a sheet set with only the pillowcases and fitted sheet – which is perfectly logical as I find my flat sheets also outlast the rest of the set. Available in five colours including: white, natural, soft navy, grey and blush. I might have to opt for blush with my second set for Nola.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
