Gym Upgrade: Better Shorts = Better Workout?

As someone who gits the gym on the regular these days, it surprises me how poorly some men dress when they hit the gym. Now I don’t expect a fashion show at the gym – in fact, I think it’s silly when people opt for style over performance when they pick out their gym clothes. But shouldn’t there be a happy medium?  There are so many options out there that are better than those bad cheap baggy shorts. Upgrading your gym shorts will not only make you feel and look better – you will work out better. Many of the new tech-forward fabrics come with better wicking and less chaffing. My new go-to gym short is the Surge Shorts from Lululemon Mens.

I opt for the 7″ linerless Surge Shorts due to the fact that I like to wear tights under it at times – especially when running outdoors in colder weather. And I prefer the shorter inseam for more movement. The Surge Shorts is made from Lululemon’s Swift Ultra fabric – known for its strength and no-bulk performance. It is also sweat-wicking, and features four-way stretch. Drawstring waist for extra adjustment and a better fit. The short comes in many classic and fashion-forward colours/prints. It also features some subtle reflective strips for safety.  I love the hidden back zip pocket – perfect for storing your keys when you workout or run. When I started working out more, I upgraded to the Surge Shorts and haven’t looked back since. In fact, I own multiple pairs in multiple colours.  $58 USD.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
