My first encounter with the RADO Ceramica was way back when I was 16. I was graduating from high school and my Mom thought it was appropriate I get a gift. We banter back and fourth before settling on the idea of a watch. Perhaps it was time for a grown up watch (up to that point I am sure I was mostly living in a Swatch world). We headed over to BIRKS and I fell for RADO. I fell hard for their Ceramica… the sleek minimalist lines…the lustre…the touch of the ceramic. It was heaven. The sales associate seemed shocked that I had ignored all the typical higher end gold watches and opted for a RADO. He said boys my age never pick out the understated ceramic watches (ugh, most boys my age didn’t have taste sir was my simple rebuttal). Sadly, I did not leave with a RADO that day. My father thought if we should be more sensible. He pleaded to my mother that if they were going to gift me something of that value – they should opt for practicality –  a laptop or a car…Of note, my father never had any taste (and was a bit of an asshole). This round about story is my way of telling you that even at 16 years old I knew RADO Ceramica was a style icon that any man could wear for the rest of his life.

Icon’s are often groundbreakers. And RADO is no different. They were the first company to experiment with high tech ceramic for a timepiece.Previously this material had only been used in fields such as medicine and aeronautics, this groundbreaking Rado material brought high tech to high fashion in a big way. The brand’s signature innovation, high-tech ceramic rocked the watchmaking world when it first debuted on a glossy black Rado timepiece over 30 years ago. Yup I am that old – I was there to seem some of the first.

The iconic timepiece was relaunched last year in collaboration with renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, which gave the unique geometric timepiece a contemporary new look. Two models are on offer for the father figure in your life. The high-gloss black version offers a classic look with edge, making an impact on the wrist while still retaining versatility thanks to its minimalist silver-coloured detailing. The matt black timepiece is ideal for men who appreciate the unexpected: The watch features unique design elements such as satin-finish black ceramic construction and a small second subdial.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
