Drink Up: Appleton Estate

I recently got sent over a bottle of Appleton Estate Reserve Blend Rum. My first test of a good rum is how does it taste on its own. This rum is full bodied with spice, vanilla, orange and nutty notes. It reminded me of a spicy fruit cake to be honest. It was delicious. I figured why not try it out in an afternoon cocktail – this one feels like a Dark n Stormy but lighter.

Recipe

  • 1 part Appleton Estate Reserve Blend
  • 3 parts Ginger ale
  • Slice of orange
  • 5 drops Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel (garnish)

Directions

  1. Squeeze the orange slice into a lowball glass and then drop it in the glass and muddle it.
  2. Add ice and build in remaining ingredients and stir.
  3. Garnish with orange peel.
  4. Enjoy.
  5. Repeat.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
