WINE WEEKENDS: BERINGER

For someone who is an avid wine drinker ( I don’t use that word connoisseur), it is quite surprising that I have taken this long to create dedicate wine posts. But so be it, I was probably too busy enjoying delicious wines.

Wine Weekends (aka wino weekends for us insiders) will be dedicated to bringing you the best wines I have sampled during the previous week – high prices, low prices and everything in between. The focus will be on great taste and there will probably be a slant towards the reds and the bubbles (personal bias noted). Up first, Beringer‘s Cab Sauv (yes I shortened it, how gauche of me).

The first thing to note of the Beringer Founders’ Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is its deep ruby colour – it’s almost black. Next you will notice that this Cabernet is robust with bright cassis, green tea, black olive and sweet vanilla aromas. Now take a sip, you will notice black fruit, cherry, cassis, and spice flavours. The best way to describe the flavour is medium bodied yet fleshy. The wine finishes with a slight oak flavour and vanilla after taste. I would drink this wine again. And again. It goes down smooth and it’s a steal at $18.

Christian has been a cultural and style junkie since the age of 6; while most kids were swiping cookies, he was swiping his grandfathers' Patek Philippe. Raised to appreciate art, fashion, design and  literature (yeah, this one actually reads) by a single mother fondly called Jackie-O. Christian quickly went from childhood cultural capital thief to academia protégé. Referred to as the cat's meow by some, too clever by half by others, Christian eschewed the academic life and ran away to join the circus -the fashion circus. Several well-appointed positions later and a career on the rise would be most people's dream but it was time to say fuck off and start all over again.

This is Christian Dare Unedited.
